Hi everyone,
What a whirlwind this past year has been! Our little miracle, baby Jonah, joined our family through a life-changing IVF journey ( I hope to do a blog on this soon!) This time last year, his little embryo was implanted in my womb and I’m still pinching myself that he’s here! He’s brought so much love, joy, and, of course, sleepless nights into our world – but every single moment has been worth it.
I’d planned to breastfeed Jonah as long as it worked for me, him, and the rest of the family. But Jonah had other ideas – he just wasn’t a fan of the boob! I’d had no issues breastfeeding my other four babies, but it was different with Jonah. I tried expressing milk for him, but it just wasn’t for me. At 44, I’ve learned a valuable lesson: life is too short, I choose to do what makes me happy. Also, with not breastfeeding anymore, I could finally get my botox and filler! 😆 💉💋
With Jonah’s jaundice, he had to feed well to make sure he wouldn’t have to go to hospital, so we switched to formula. Looking back, it was absolutely the right decision for us as it gave my amazing husband (who took three months of parental leave) the opportunity to bond with Jonah in those precious early weeks. I got so much joy watching them bond and it gave me the time and space I needed to rest and recover. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to motherhood; we all find our own way 💯
Later, when Jonah developed a dairy intolerance, we faced more challenges – this time with the paediatrician. But we trusted our instincts and didn’t back down when it came to getting him the formula he needed. It’s a shame that any parent should have to argue for what’s clearly best for their newborn. Now, he’s thriving on prescription dairy-free formula. He’s happy, healthy, and content and that’s all that matters! 💙
I’m not going to lie, I was a little overwhelmed about coming back to the clinic when Jonah was just 7 weeks old. However, I was pleasantly surprised! I’m incredibly lucky to have the most wonderful patients who made the transition not just manageable but enjoyable. Returning to the clinic reminded me how much I love helping others feel their best. It’s not always easy to balance motherhood and a career, but I’ve found that when you focus on what truly matters, it’s possible to do both with heart and purpose 🫶
Now we are preparing for Jonah’s first little adventure abroad! It’s so important to slow down now and again, and to make space for what fills your heart. Life can get so busy that we lose sight of the moments that really matter – family time, self-care, and creating memories. This time of my life has been a reminder that it’s okay to let go of perfection and simply show up as your best self, whatever that looks like for you.
For any mothers reading this, know that you’re doing amazing. Whether you’re struggling with sleepless nights, juggling work and family, or making tough decisions that feel right for your little one, know that you’re enough. Motherhood is messy, unpredictable, and filled with moments of doubt (had plenty of those! 😆) – but it’s also beautiful, fulfilling, and uniquely yours. Do it YOUR way!
